Hon. Gregory R. James AM QC was until recently the President of the New South Wales Mental Health Review Tribunal, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, appointed in 1998, and  a former Royal Commissioner in South Australia. Prior to this, he had served as Vice-President of the Australia Criminal Law Association for several years. He was a Commissioner with the New South Wales Law Reform Commission and formerly a consultant to the Australian Law Reform Commission.  Formerly he held the position of Associate District Court Judge in New South Wales. In 2010, he was awarded a Doctorate of Law (Honoris Causa) by Southern Cross University. In 2012, he was appointed to Membership of the Order of Australia for services to the law, judicial education, mental health, and the international community. He has resumed practice at the New South Wales Bar.
